…Anambra governor says broad support for President at APC campaign council inauguration unusual in Nigeria’s democracy
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has described the broad political support shown for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council as an unusual development in Nigeria’s democratic history. Soludo spoke in Abuja on Wednesday, October 14, during the inauguration ceremony, which was attended by governors and political stakeholders across party lines.
The governor, who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said his party’s support for Tinubu was anchored on shared interests in national unity, security and economic prosperity.He pointed to the presence of about 31 state governors at the event as evidence of an unusually broad political alignment, noting that the gathering reflected a growing elite consensus around the sitting President, despite differences in party affiliation.
Drawing on his background as a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Soludo described the economic philosophy of the Tinubu administration as “pragmatic progressiveness,” arguing that the President has shown willingness to confront structural challenges rather than postpone difficult reforms. According to him, the administration inherited an economy under severe pressure and has embarked on reforms aimed at moving the country from instability towards recovery and sustainable prosperity.
He credited Tinubu’s understanding of public finance for shaping the direction of the reforms, saying the policies should be assessed within the context of the deep-rooted economic challenges the country faced before his assumption of office.While supporters have pointed to macroeconomic adjustments as signs of progress, critics have continued to question how quickly the benefits are reaching ordinary Nigerians.
His intervention was highlighted by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA) as placing economic policy and institutional performance at the center of the 2027 discourse. FORCEPA said public institutions remain critical to implementing government policies and making accurate information about public sector performance accessible to Nigerians.
