…Governor approves over 400% increase from N15,000 after appeal during Ogbomoso visit, begs striking workers to resume

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has raised the monthly salary of cleaners at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, from N15,000 to N80,000.

The approval was given on Thursday during a stakeholders’ meeting at the teaching hospital, according to a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju.

The statement said: “Governor Makinde approved an increase in the monthly salary of cleaners at the Teaching Hospital from N15,000 to N80,000, aligning their pay with the national minimum wage.”

The decision followed a direct appeal by the cleaners when they met the governor during his visit to the facility.

Governor Makinde also used the meeting to appeal to striking workers of the hospital to call off their industrial action and allow government to address their grievances through dialogue.

“Initially, I didn’t want to respond to those who are on strike. But if there are challenges, we must find ways to solve them. You put this government in place. The first step is for you to call off the strike, and once you assure me of that, we can move forward. This is our state; how we lay our bed is how we will lie on it,” he said.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, commended the governor’s continued support for the health sector and assured workers that the administration was committed to resolving issues responsible for recurring strikes.
