Street-pop star snubs VeryDarkMan fight, insists on facing ‘Akpako Master’ in celebrity bout to bring him back to limelight.
Controversial street-pop sensation, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has set his sights on a new opponent — his senior colleague and self-styled ‘Akpako Master’, Terry G.The Zazu crooner threw the challenge on Sunday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds programme, saying he wants to face Terry G in a celebrity boxing match not out of beef, but to resurrect his career.
When the host asked him to name one celebrity he would love to fight, Portable did not hesitate.“Me, I want to fight Terry G,” he declared.The interviewer, trying to steer him towards his long-running online feud with social media activist VeryDarkMan, asked: “Do you want to fight VDM?”But Portable stood his ground, insisting that Terry G remains his preferred opponent.
“Na Terry G I want to fight. I won blow am. I want to resurrect his career. If Terry G fight me one-on-one in boxing, I swear to God, he will rise again. People will remember him again,” he said.
The unexpected call-out has since sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with many fans expressing shock, amusement and curiosity over the bizarre challenge.
Portable, known for courting controversy and turning his feuds into publicity stunts, has in recent months floated several celebrity boxing challenges as he continues to stay in the headlines.
Terry G, famous for his eccentric style and hit songs in the late 2000s and early 2010s, has been relatively low-key in the music industry in recent years — a hiatus Portable claims he can end with a fight.
As of press time, the ‘Free Madness’ crooner is yet to respond to the challenge.
