Oyo Governor Engnr Seyi Makinde has tipped former Finance Commissioner Adekanmbi as his preferred successor for 2027, signaling who he wants to take over the reins when his tenure ends.
The announcement also included three senatorial candidates: Dhikirulah Stanley Adedeji for Oyo South, Shina Abiola Peller for Oyo North, and PDP gubernatorial aspirant Ajadi Olufemi Oguntoyinbo for Oyo Central.PDP’s Oyo State Publicity Secretary, Michael Ogunshina, confirmed it in a phone call Wednesday night.
“Yes, it is confirmed, the governor has announced him,” Ogunshina said.Adekanmbi served as Finance Commissioner under the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi. If Makinde’s backing holds, it puts him in pole position for the PDP ticket.
The move has already set tongues wagging across both the ruling PDP and opposition circles in the state. Sources say it came after weeks of closed-door consultations with key party stakeholders.Makinde hasn’t made a formal public statement yet, but the party spokesman says the decision is done.
The picks also reshape the senatorial race, with Peller, a former federal lawmaker, and Ajadi, a known PDP figure, now positioned for their respective zones.
