In a significant announcement, the crescent moon marking the beginning of Ramadan has been spotted in Saudi Arabia, setting the stage for the holy month to commence.
According to reports from Haramain, a reputable Saudi-based media outlet, the Saudi authorities are set to declare Wednesday, February 18, 2026, as the first day of Ramadan.
The moon-sighting process was underway in Hawtat Sudair and Tumair in Al-Majma’ah Governorate, with Abdulaziz Al-Muainaa from Al Hareeq Observatory noting favorable weather conditions for the sighting. “The sun will set at exactly 5:52 pm, and the weather conditions are suitable for sighting the Ramadan crescent,” he said.
Upon confirmation of the sighting, Haramain tweeted, “Crescent moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Ramadhān 1447 will begin tonight. May Allāh accept our siyām, qiyām & acts of worship, and may He grant us the ability to utilise the precious moments of this Blessed month to engage in that which pleases Him. Aameen.”
As the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, Ramadan holds immense significance as it commemorates the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) on the Night of Decree, Laylat Al Qadr, observed during the last ten nights of Ramadan.
