There was relief in Oyo State on Monday as Governor Seyi Makinde formally received the pupils and teachers who were kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area.
The Nigerian military handed them over to the state government after they spent 48 hours at the 2 Division Nigerian Army Medical Services in Odogbo Barracks, Ibadan.
There, they got medical checks, treatment, and psychological evaluation.The victims had spent 56 days in captivity before they were rescued.
“We’ve got you” – Makinde tells victims
Speaking during the handover, Governor Makinde assured the pupils and teachers that the state government will take full responsibility for them.
“As a government, we will support every one of you. We will do everything necessary to protect the education of the pupils and the careers of the teachers so that this unfortunate incident will not define your future,” he said.
The governor also ordered that the victims be reunited with their families immediately, saying going home to their loved ones is the first step to healing emotionally.Ongoing support promised
Makinde said the government’s help won’t stop after the reunion.
“We will take responsibility for the teachers and the pupils going forward, even as they reunite with their families. Our commitment is to ensure they recover fully and return to normal life with the support they deserve,” he assured.According to him, the state will continue to provide medical care, counseling, and educational support to help them overcome the trauma and get back to normal life.
Hope returns to Ogbomoso
