Tension is brewing at River Park Estate in Abuja, and Ghana’s community in Nigeria says if it’s not handled fast, it could damage relations between Nigeria and Ghana.The National Association of Ghanaian Communities in Nigeria, NAGHACON, made the call on Thursday. NAGHACON leaders — National President Lukman Tetteh and General Secretary Edwards Domfe — visited River Park Estate after reports of trouble at properties owned by Ghanaian investment firm, JonahCapital.During the visit, they inspected The Gallery Clubhouse, the estate gatehouse, and other JonahCapital buildings. They said they saw signs of damage and activities that are affecting the company’s work.What worries them most: other businesses in the estate are running normally, but JonahCapital seems to be the only one being targeted.How did we get here?
According to NAGHACON, JonahCapital was once investigated over alleged forgery, but the Attorney-General of the Federation later cleared the company.The Federal Capital Territory Administration also recognized JonahCapital under a Development Lease Agreement. But the issue came up again after the FCT Minister declared the agreement had expired. JonahCapital is currently challenging that decision in court.The Ghanaian group says allowing actions that interfere with a case already in court is dangerous. It could create unnecessary diplomatic friction between Nigeria and Ghana. They pointed to the xenophobic attacks in South Africa as an example of how small disputes involving foreigners can blow up if ignored.

The appeal follows reports that armed policemen from the Counter Terrorism Unit of the Nigeria Police Force escorted a group of men to The Gallery Clubhouse in River Park Estate days ago. During that operation, part of the entrance was allegedly dug up.
JonahCapital has described it as an illegal invasion of its property and is demanding a full investigation.What the Ghanaian community wants NAGHACON is asking both Presidents Tinubu and Mahama to step in, protect Ghanaians linked to JonahCapital, and ensure the courts are allowed to decide the case without pressure or interference.With legal battles and public arguments over ownership of one of Abuja’s biggest estates still ongoing, the group says the time to act is now before the matter escalates.
