…Oyo govt says no secret sale, accuses APC chieftain’s camp of alarmist and political theatrics

IBADAN — The Oyo State Government has dismissed claims by the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) that Governor Seyi Makinde is allocating government lands to private developers, describing the allegation over Cheshire Home land in Eleyele as unfortunate and devoid of evidence.

In a response on Tuesday, the government said the Alli camp was still smarting from what it called the comprehensive dismantling of its ill-founded narratives by the APM gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, during a radio interview last Saturday, and has now retreated to alarmist and distortion.

The statement is unfortunate, misleading, and clearly the product of a jaded imagination, the government said, adding that it was designed to create unnecessary anxiety among residents over a matter on which it has taken no secret decision nor acted outside the law.

It expressed surprise that SSACO built an entire narrative around speculation and unverified claims rather than facts, noting that the statement was replete with assumptions and political rhetoric but conspicuously devoid of evidence.

The administration said Governor Makinde has consistently demonstrated commitment to transparency, responsible asset management and expansion of public infrastructure, noting that since 2019 it has invested heavily in schools, hospitals, road networks, security and other public facilities.”This record speaks far louder than politically-motivated conjecture,” it said.

It added that it was ironic that those who remained silent while public assets suffered neglect now posture as defenders of the commonwealth, stressing that Oyo people are discerning enough to distinguish genuine concern from political opportunism.

For the avoidance of doubt, the government said public assets belong to the people of Oyo State and that every decision on government land and property is guided by due process, public interest and developmental needs.

Governor Makinde will not be distracted by baseless accusations or attempts to politicise governance, it said, while urging SSACO to engage issues with responsibility, sincerity and factual accuracy.
