The Oyo State Government says no resident affected by the Ibadan Circular Road project will be abandoned without compensation. Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, gave the assurance on Tuesday while addressing Community Media Investigators in Ibadan, insisting that the administration remains committed to people-centered governance.
Dr. Olanrewaju said the project, first conceived by the late Lam Adesina, was revived to open up the state’s economy and position Oyo for long-term development.“The government will not renege on its plans to deliver people-centered leadership,” he said. “This project is about more than roads. It’s about business-friendly policies, staff welfare, and community development.”
The circular road cuts across six local government areas in Ibadan. According to the CPS, work is progressing in four lots, with two lots already nearing completion.He disclosed that compensation for affected property owners and communities has been paid in four tranches so far, and the government will continue payments even beyond May 29, 2027 to ensure everyone is captured.
Olanrewaju compared the project to the Oremeji Expressway of 1972, saying the circular road will also help decongestant inner communities and boost trade across the state.
Reacting, Team Lead of Community Media Investigators, Olatunji Badmus, welcomed the clarification. He urged journalists to verify facts before publishing and called on all affected victims to present their documents on time to fast-track compensation.
The Ibadan Circular Road is one of the flagship projects of the Makinde administration, designed to link major corridors around the city and reduce traffic within Ibadan metropolis.
