……Abiodun, Umahi, Ladoja attend ceremony as Oyo accuses FG of “desperate politics”. Makinde says exclusion won’t stop “the will of the people” in 2027.
Politics played out on the asphalt today in Oluyole. The Federal Government flagged off the dualisation of the Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road without inviting Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, sparking anger from the Oyo State Government. Officials described the move as “taking politics too far” and said the event was reduced to a “political jamboree” despite being held in the heart of Ibadan.

The ceremony took place Sunday, August 24, 2026, at Idi Ayunre in Oluyole Local Government Area. Dignitaries on the ground included Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Minister of Works Dave Umahi, APC gubernatorial candidate Sarafadeen Alli, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja. Conspicuously absent was the host state governor.

In a statement, Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, condemned the exclusion. He said the decision had “a desperate political undertone borne out of a lack of sagacity and confidence.”

According to Oyelade, the excuse given — that Makinde was on leave — “makes the case even more ridiculous” because the state has a functional Acting Governor.“The deliberate exclusion of Governor Makinde from the dualisation of the road is taken politics too far,” the Commissioner stated.

He added that Governor Makinde remains “unperturbed” by the snub, but regrets that an infrastructure project meant to benefit residents was politicized.

“The course of 2027 is set, and no level of indecorum or desperation from whatever quarters will hold back the will of the people,” Oyelade quoted the governor as saying.

The Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode road dualisation is expected to ease traffic and boost trade between Oyo and Ogun States. But today’s flag-off will be remembered less for the road, and more for the empty chair left for the Oyo governor.E-signed:
