President Bola Tinubu has reshuffled his cabinet, swapping out two ministers in a move the presidency says will sharpen economic delivery.Wale Edun is out as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Taking his place is Taiwo Oyedele, who until now served as Minister of State for Finance.
The change was confirmed in a memo from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume. The same memo also named Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the new ministerial nominee for Housing and Urban Development, replacing Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.Both Edun and Dangiwa have been asked to hand over to their replacements by April 23, 2026.
Dangiwa will hand over to the Minister of State in his ministry.Akume said the shake-up is meant to “strengthen cohesion and synergy in governance” and drive “more impactful economic delivery to Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda.” He noted that Tinubu made the changes under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution.In the statement, the President thanked the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them well.
He also hinted that more cabinet tweaks could still come as part of efforts to reinvigorate his team.For Oyedele, it’s a big step up. He now moves from deputy to full minister, with the tough job of steering Tinubu’s economic agenda.
