Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, has thrown a grenade into Nigeria’s political circles, accusing Farouk Ahmed, head of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), of splashing $5 million on secondary school fees for his four kids in Switzerland. “This smells like economic sabotage,” Dangote declared Sunday at a press briefing in Lagos, demanding Ahmed explain himself to Nigerians—via the Code of Conduct Tribunal if needed.

Dangote didn’t mince words: “People in Sokoto struggle to pay ₦100,000 school fees… yet someone working in government blows $5m on foreign schooling? Unbelievable.” He stressed Ahmed’s income as a public servant couldn’t justify such spending, urging tax authorities to probe the source of the funds.

Dangote drove the point home personally: “Even my children didn’t go to those schools. They studied in Nigeria. What’s going on here?” He insists this isn’t about targeting Ahmed but protecting Nigeria’s future. “If he denies it, I’ll publish the fees paid and sue those Swiss schools to reveal the truth.”

Dangote linked the scandal to broader woes in Nigeria’s petroleum industry, alleging powerful players profit from fuel imports while local refineries like his own struggle. “Allowing these imports is unethical. It hurts Nigeria.”

The ball’s now in Ahmed’s court. Will he address the allegations? The public’s watching.
