The people of Ibadan are standing firm, warning the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, and his allies to steer clear of any actions that might disrespect the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Sen Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.

This warning follows a controversy over seating arrangements at a recent security meeting in Ibadan, where the Olubadan and other traditional rulers were present.

Ibadan Won’t Back Down

The traditional stakeholders, monarchs, and prominent sons and daughters of Ibadan are clear: Ibadan will not be treated as inferior to Oyo or any other town in Yorubaland.

“We will not tolerate any actions or reactions that could ridicule the Olubadan stool and Ibadan traditional system,” said Mogaji Asimiyu Ariori, President of Ibadan Mogajis, and Mogaji Dr. Nurudeen Akinade, Coordinator of Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative (ICPI).

A Call for Respect

The stakeholders are calling on all Yorubaland leaders to prevail on the Alaafin of Oyo, warning that Ibadan’s gentility should not be mistaken for weakness.

The Olubadan, a former Senator, Governor, and successful businessman, deserves respect, and any attempt to undermine his dignity will be met with resistance.

Ibadan Mesi, Won O Go

The people of Ibadan are united in their determination to protect their heritage and tradition. Ibadan will not be second to anyone, and its people will defend their dignity at all costs.

The statement concluded with a resolute “Ibadan mesi, won o go” (Ibadan has spoken, we won’t go back), signaling the unyielding resolve of the people of Ibadan to stand up for their rights and traditions.
