In a dramatic declaration, legendary Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, aka K1 De-Ultimate, has asserted his right to become the next Awujale of Ijebuland, dismissing critics who question his lineage. Speaking on stage at a recent event, K1 invoked the spirit of the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, to vouch for his royal heritage.

The 67-year-old musician, who was conferred with the title Olori Omo-Oba Akile Ijebu by the late monarch, insists his ancestry makes him a strong candidate for the vacant stool. “I’m from the Fidipotemole in Ijebu Ode, and the Fusegbunwa of Ijebu-Ode,” he declared. “If you’re questioning my lineage, we’ll meet at Popo.”

K1 has formally notified the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of his intention to contest, citing his compliance with Ijebu customary law and Ogun State Chieftaincy Laws. However, the ruling house has directed him to prove his membership by completing a royal lineage data form, tracing his genealogy back seven generations.

The contest for the Awujale throne is heating up, with K1’s candidacy sparking debate across Yorubaland. Will his royal lineage, cultural influence, and national recognition secure him the top spot?
